Halloweeni Martini

I have decided to turn Halloween into a day to really celebrate. And by celebrate, I mean drink alcohol, and I think it should involve a Halloweeni Martini.

I think I am going to be a kitty cat. Meow. Then I am screwing the possible trick-or-treaters and meeting D. at a bar for some limited-time-only pumpkin beer and some delicious chokes & cheese. If we get back to my apartment in time for trick-or-treaters, I might serve them some Twix, Milk Duds and other goodies out of a v. large stainless steel martini glass I have. Their parents will think I am an alcoholic. That is, if they even come - apartments aren't exactly crawling with the little ghosts and goblins. If not, we are just keeping all the goodies for ourselves.

Here is a fun Halloweeni Martini recipe:

Jack O' Tini

2 oz. Vodka - chilled
1/4 oz. Bols Pumpkin Smash Liqueur
1 Candy Corn

Place a single candy corn at the bottom of chilled martini glass. Combine vodka and liqueur a shaker with ice, shake well and strain into the glass.

Get this recipe & other great ones here.

Just watch out for the flaming martinis!

If I had a sugar daddy...

Tagged for a MeMe

Dana at It's a Wonderful Life! tagged me for this.

6 habits/facts about me....

1. I am hardly ever home on the weekends. I pack up almost every weekend and drive the two hours to my boy's house. Going to his house is almost always more fun than the two of us hanging out in my one-bedroom apartment. His house is close to his family's farm, and there is always plenty of fun stuff to do there!

2. I love my sweet one-bedroom apartment. Decorating it and living by myself in a brand spanking new place is exactly what I needed at this point in my life. I do like the occasional weekend when the boy is busy and I get to have some time to myself cleaning up my apartment and just enjoying it.

3. My latest birthday totally made me freak out about not being married. I have been with a super wonderful & fabulous guy for 3 1/2 years, but the whole one-year-older-and-still-no-ring thing threw me for a loop, and I went a bit loopy on the boy. I am better now.

4. I love ice cream. From pistachio to coffee to frozen custard to homemade to just plain vanilla, I have never met an ice cream that I did not like.

5. I love fashion, but I have huge, flat feet and wearing heels often gives me excruciating pain. Maybe they give everyone that, but after having $20,000+ of work done to my feet, I try not to ruin it all to wear really high heels. I still do occasionally, but I try not to overdo it, even if it would be ten times cuter if I wore the heels. Besides, it is harder than heck to find gorgeous shoes in size 11 because stores don't buy that many, and they immediately sell out. I have resorted to shopping online for most of my shoes. Indigo by Clarks has the cutest heels that are also comfortable!

6. I studied abroad in France when I was in college, and I really want to go back to Europe sometime in my life. I think it would be the perfect honeymoon destination!

Bonus!! I did not drink alcohol, except for the occasional sip and a glass of wine in France (the good wine was only 2 bucks a bottle! I don't know why I didn't stay drunk the entire time I was there) until I graduated from college. Yeah, I know it seems crazy, but that's just how it happened. I was all for other people drinking, but I just didn't do it. Maybe that is what prevented me from gaining the Freshman 15 - I actually lost weight when I came to college! I was everyone's designated driver, and I had a helluva good time!

I want...

It's my birthday...

... so let me tell you a bit about me.

I was inspired to do this from two of my fave blogettes. Check their posts here and
here.

1. What kind of SOAP is in your bathtub right now? Bath & Body Mentha Vitamin Wash, and a bar of soap for when my boy is in town.

2. Do you have any watermelon in your refrigerator? NO. This is such a weird question. I almost didn't answer it.

3. What would you change about your living room? I wouldn't change much - it pretty much rocks. If I could, I would make it bigger and paint it some fun color, but I rent an apartment, and there is only so much you can do.

4. Are the dishes in your dishwasher clean or dirty? Dirty

5. What is in your fridge? Milk, Eggs, my boy's beer, Cheese, wine, condiments, Malibu Rum, yogurt, grapes, a Pur water pitcher, pineapple...

6. White or wheat bread? Both. I love bread!

7. What is on top of your refrigerator? nothing.

8. What color or design is on your shower curtain? I love it - it has palm trees and part of it is sheer.

9. How many plants are in your home? None. I don't have time for plants.

10. Is your bed made right now? No.

11. Comet or Soft Scrub? Soft Scrub

12. Is your closet organized? Yes, by pants, dresses, skirts, shirts and sleeve length (but every once in a while I have to do a re-haul)

13. Can you describe your flashlight? It's one of those wind-up ones that you can power with your own strength. I love it. My boy's parents gave it to me for Christmas last year, and it is Black & Gold. Go MU Tigers!

14. Do you drink out of glass or plastic most of the time at home? Plastic mostly, except for when I have some martinis or wine.

15. Do you have iced tea made in a pitcher right now? No.

16. If you have a garage, is it cluttered? A garage? I wish, but I would have to pay an extra $50 a month, and I rather spend that money on clothes and wine.

17. Curtains or blinds? both.

18. How many pillows do you sleep with? Four

19. Do you sleep with any lights on at night? No, but I live in an apartment and the outdoor safety lighting filtrates easily into my apartment. I bought room-darkening curtains, but it is still a problem.

20. How often do you vacuum? When it needs it, but sometimes less than that...

21. Standard toothbrush or electric? standard

22. What color is your toothbrush? orange, white and blue

23. Do you have a welcome mat on your front porch? Yes, MU Tigers

24. What is in your oven right now? nothing, but i had cookies in there last night!

25. Is there anything under your bed? Yes, it's just another area for storage when you live in a one-bedroom apartment.

26. Chore you hate doing the most? mopping

27. What retro items are in your home? My rug has geometric shapes.

28. Do you have a separate room that you use as an office? No, I have a one-bedroom apartment - my laptop is on my desk in my living room.

29. How many mirrors are in your home? 6

30. Do you have any hidden emergency money around your home? No.

31. What color are your walls? They are all cream with white baseboards. It is classier than most apartments, but I still wish I could paint them a fun color.

32. Do you keep any kind of protection weapons in your home? no, but you should see me with a rolling pin - watch out.

33. What does your home smell like right now? Strawberry Patch candle from Bath & Body Works.

34. Favorite candle scent? Hmm, I like several but especially soy candles that aren't too overpowering - peach, fresh scents, strawberry, cinnamon.

35. What kind of pickles (if any) are in your refrigerator right now? no pickles.

36. What color is your favorite Bible? it has a sunset picture on the front.

37. Ever been on your roof? No. i am pretty sure the apartment security people would take me down.

38. Do you own a stereo? No, my laptop is my stereo, unless you count my clock radio, and I don't.

39. How many TVs do you have? 1

40. How many house phones? Zero. I am a cell-phone-only gal.

41. Do you have a housekeeper? I wish. That would be amazing. I would make sure it was some hottie guy, and I would make him work without his shirt on and bring wine for me to drink while i ordered him around. Every girl has a fantasy, right?!

42. What style do you decorate in? Contemporary, modern with a bit of comfort and tradition thrown in.

43. Do you like solid colors in furniture or prints? Solid

44. Is there a smoke detector in your home? Yes, of course

45. In case of fire, what are the items in your house which you’d grab if you only could make one quick trip? laptop, picture albums, purse, phone, my favorite pair of jeans, and my freaking awesome martini glasses. Slightly vain? Yes, I am.

How old am I? Well, I am in my 20s, and that is as far as I am going...

Beauty + Fame

Catherine Zeta-Jones: Perfection, dripping with diamonds. I love her!
C. Blanchett: Beautiful - i just love the grey and the effortless look of it all.
Thandie Newton: Of course, she looks gorgeous, but for some reason, that dress makes me think of aliens
(I think it's the dots across the boobs:), and I don't really like the cut of the skirt.

C. Blanchett (again): That color is beautiful on her, and the material looks marvelous. The pencil skirt just makes it work beautifully.
Petra Nemcova: You know, everytime I see her, it makes me a little sad since she lost her boyfriend in the horrible, terrible, sad, sad, sad tsunami not too long ago. I need to have this look. Crisp, white shirt: Check. V. cute black skirt: Check.
Necklace that makes the rocking outfit work: Need., Gorgeous bag: Need.

Emmy Rossum & LeeAnn Rimes: A great black & white combo. I just love LeeAnn's black corset-type dress,
and Emmy always looks somewhat angelic (even when she isn't wearing white). I wish had her gorgeous skin.
Ivanka Trump: I really like this jacket, and I was particularly attracted to this picture because the racehorse.
It was taken at a reception for the Breeder's Cup, and I just love horse racing
(and old money, and sometimes those go together!

Ok, I totally know the 80s stuff made a come back and all, but to me this picture of Mariah Carey
just makes her look ridiculous. But I am never really a Mariah Carey fashion fan.

Much to say about drinking...

Today, I have not been posting about fashion, but I have just found some other fabulous tidbits that I needed to share. Here is a great quote I found on the Houlihan's drink menu while drinking a $3.50 LITER of Long Island Ice Tea. Yes, a whole freaking LITER for only $3.50 from 4 to 7 p.m. It was unbelievable and absolutely delicious. I am still buzzing a bit from it, BUT the great quote is:

"The trouble with jogging is that the
ice falls out of the glass." ~ Martin Mull

I used to be more of a runner than I am now, and I tell you what, that quote really, really makes me
laugh.

I want...

... to let you know that Tom Cruise annoys me. Why?

1. He seemed to treat Nicole Kidman like crap.
2. He looks like a guy I dated in college. Bad memories.
3. He then married sweet little Katie Holmes who is young enough to be his daughter.
4. He quickly impregnated her.
5. He named the baby Suri.
6. Vanilla Sky.
7. He looks as if he is finding his next younger generation chick in this picture.
8. The girls are right to be excited. They could be his next one & only in 10 years.

I want...

... to never see a man in a skirt again.

Last weekend, I traveled to a Midwest town to partake in the delicious wine (it was Oktoberfest!) with friends and family. I was astounded when I saw this guy & girl walk by (sorry, it's fuzzy, but i was a wee bit intoxicated...).

The man is wearing a Carhartt skirt. Although he might appear to be a woman from the rear, it was really a man (and even if it was a woman, I would not want ANYBODY to wear that skirt).

What is Carhartt? Well, it's a working man's clothing. Click here to see a selection of it. AND check out the latest on Single + Cats = Sad for some fashion tips for men. Lord knows that most of them need it! Props to those who don't.

hugs,
gg

p.s. the skirt has PLEATS, i am still in shock of it all...

celeb fashion eye candy

1. Mary-Louise Parker: I love this little dress, gold belt and her pointy-toe shoes.
2. Thandie Newton: Who knew something similar to tie-dye could look this good?!

1. Kylie Minogue: I just love this dress on her. It's fun and a bit crazy!
2. Jennifer Hudson: I don't know if she could look more perfect - i wish i had her adorable curls!
(and her voice, but I know that is not going to happen)

1. Scarlett Johansson: Of course, the dress is sensational, but i love the little burst of blue from the shoes and those fantastic earrings.
2. Cate Blanchett: This isn't a new picture, but I just love that look.

Oh, Pretty Woman

As a young girl, I was just obsessed with Julia Roberts. I loved the movie Pretty Woman. I can totally recite lines from it like nobody's business.

I know it is about a hooker, and that is not the best for a young girl's mind, but it is an a-freaking-mazing movie. I have the limited edition at home, extra-long length that includes scenes the regular movie doesn't have, and they are just part of the regular movie. It's great.

I saw this picture on InStyle.com, and I just had to post it because it because I think Julia Roberts looks so amazing with that super stylish LBD and gorgeous waves. I hope I look that good after having babies!

This might just inspire me to watch Pretty Woman tonight, but wait, The Hills is on, and I am an alumni adviser for a sorority (and their chapter meeting is tonight) so that might just take away too many hours of my night before I need to head to bed.

Natalie Portman looks oh-so-vavoom in that deep purple, but there is something off about her eyebrows that is kinda ruining it for me.

Happy Monday!

I want these boots!

I love Gossip Girl (Wednesdays, CW, 8 central), but I am usually watching it on the internet because I am obsessed with Private Practice, and they are both on TV at the same time. I do not have TiVo or DVR.

But Gossip Girl has the most amazing fashion. I saw the gray boots below on the main character Serena, and I fell in love with them. Have you seen anything more wonderful?!

Here is a link to the boots by Chinese Laundry, but I did not find any in the gray. They are not even that expensive ($99) so I am bit bummed they don't have the gray! Hold up. I checked Amazon.com, and they do have the gray for only $89, BUT they don't have the right size for my splendidly huge feet.

Happy shopping, girlys!
